August 15, 2004 12:42 pm Women second in quadruple sculls heatSCHINIAS, Greece -- Kelly Salchow of Cincinnati helped her crew finish second behind Germany in Sunday's heat of the women's quadruple sculls at the Olympic Regatta in Schinias, about 25 miles northeast of Athens near the Aegean Sea. The strong winds that whipped the course Sunday were nothing new to Salchow, who said her training in Princeton, N.J., was geared to the tough conditions expected at Schinias. ``Our coach chose the rougher of two lakes in the Princeton area to practice on,'' she said. ``In any other year, he'd have kept us inside on the ergometer or had us run when the water was too rough.''
