ATHENS, Greece — Boise, Idaho, cyclist Kristin Armstrong said she is in the process of hiring a California attorney and plans to file an appeal after being left off the two-woman U.S. team for the Olympic time trial.

Armstrong was left off the team in favor of Christine Thorburn of Davenport, Iowa, USA Cycling officials announced Thursday.

Armstrong said the selection process was supposed to be based on international results, but U.S. coach Jim Ochowicz said that was only a part of the selection process.

Armstrong has two third-place finishes in international time trials this season. Thorburn won the national time trial championship in June.

Thorburn joins Dede Barry in the Wednesday (Aug. 18) time trial. All three women will compete in Sunday’s (Aug. 15) road race.
