Soldiers with the 3-69 Task Force honor Sgt. 1st Class Wilbert Davis, 40, of Tampa, Fla., during a memorial service held on the tarmac of the Saddam International Airport, renamed Baghdad International Airport by the U.S. military, April 6. Davis died as the task force marched north to Baghdad during operations to secure the airport. Davis, an Army soldier for 13 years, was with HHC369 armor and the maintainence team chief for Alpha Company 3-69 in Fort Stewart, Ga. Promoted to Sgt. 1st Class posthumously, Davis, who was deployed in Korea, Kosovo and Bosnia, will be awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart posthumously.
